Moving Forward With Respect

It is an understatement to say that there was a lot of commotion and controversy throughout the PN leadership race, however despite all this, one thing is for sure – the leadership election led to many voicing their opinion, clearly and unequivocally proving that the PN is far from dead, as many had alluded.

The Nationalist Party is alive and kicking.

Perhaps for many their preferred candidate was not elected and the disappointment they feel is to be understood, yet, once the dust settles, things may be different. I am positive, that besides for the exceptional few, the love of the Party will reign for many.

All contenders put their neck out, and whilst it is easy to criticize and give them a hard time (some might even argue that once you put your name forward you should expect it and not complain) we should all appreciate what each contender put into this leadership race.

And whilst I congratulate Adrian Delia for his great achievement and thank Chris Said, Alex Perici Calascione and Frank Portelli, my main thought goes to their families.

My biggest thank you is in fact to their wives and children, their relatives and closest friends. They are the ones holding things together, they are the ones we should think of before throwing any unjustified mud their way – they are the ones we always need to thank as without their support, we would not have politicians to vote for.

The bottom line is that someone has to do the job so whilst we have a right to expect the best from our politicians we also have the duty to respect them and also appreciate the sacrifices being made by them as individuals and by those around them.

It is time to look ahead, get on board and have one aim – to be an effective opposition working towards being in government.

NIMXU ’L QUDDIEM B’RISPETT

Hu fatt magħruf li matul l-elezzjoni għal Kap tal-Partit Nazzjonalista l-kontroversji u l-kommozzjoni ma kinux ftit. Madankollu, ħaġa waħda hi ċerta – din l-elezzjoni wasslet biex ħafna esprimew l-opinjoni tagħhom, b’tali mod li ma ħallewx dubju li l-Partit Nazzjonalista huwa ’l bogħod minn mejjet kif ħafna allegaw.

Il-Partit Nazzjonalista hu ħaj u fuq saqajh.

Jista’ jkun li għal xi wħud il-kandidat favorit tagħhom ma kienx elett u allura d-diżappunt li jħossu jrid jiġi mifhum. Madankollu ladarba jgħaddi kollox, jaf jibdew jaraw l-affarijiet mod ieħor. Jien ninsab pożittiva li minbarra l-ftit każijiet eċċezzjonali l-imħabba għall-Partit terġa’ tirrenja fost kulħadd.

Il-kontestanti kollha ħarġu għonqhom u filwaqt li huwa faċli li wieħed jikkritikahom u jtihom għadma iebsa (uħud jargumentaw li ladarba tpoġġi ismek fil-lista jkollok toqgħod għaliha u ma tgorrx) għandna lkoll napprezzaw lil kull wieħed minnhom.

U filwaqt li nifraħ lil Adrian Delia u nirringrazzja lil Chris Said, Alex Perici Calascione u Frank Portelli, ħsibijieti jmorru fuq il-familji tagħhom.

L-akbar grazzi tiegħi għal marthom u wliedhom, il-qraba u l-ħbieb tagħhom. Dawn huma dawk li jżommuhom għaddejjin u huma f’dawn li rridu nżommu f’moħna qabel naħsbu biex nitfgħu xi tajn lejn wieħed jew ieħor – huma dawn li dejjem irridu nirringrazzjaw għax mingħajr is-sostenn tagħhom aħna ma jkollniex politiċi għal min nivvutaw.

Xi ħadd irid jidħol għall-biċċa xogħol. Għaldaqstant filwaqt li għandna d-dritt li nistennew l-aħjar mill-politiċi tagħna għandna wkoll id-dmir li nirrispettawhom u napprezzaw is-sagrifiċċji li jagħmlu huma u dawk ta’ madwarhom.

Issa żmien li nħarsu ’l quddiem, inxammru l-kmiem u jkollna għan wieħed – li nkunu oppożizzjoni effettiva b’impenn li nkunu fil-Gvern.
